The new sports hub project at Kingsway Park will aim to give residents greater access to healthier lifestyles and help improve wellbeing. Planning is underway for this project, which will be funded by the £62.6 million awarded in June 2021 as part of the government’s Towns Fund scheme.
The project will include new changing room facilities, grass football pitches, floodlighting, bowls pavilion, and increased parking. The council is working with charity Football Foundation to secure investment for the project.
In 2022, the nearby £15.5 million Kirkby Leisure Centre opened in Kirkby in Ashfield with a 25m swimming pool and splash pad area, a multi-purpose sports hall, fitness suite, a fun climb wall, soft play area, steam room and sauna, a café, wellbeing studio, and sensory room.
