Ashfield District Council will celebrate the annual event of Commonwealth Day with a flag raising ceremony, with the theme for the service this year as One Resilient Common Future.&nbsp; Commonwealth Day is held annually on 11 March, and marks the start of a week-long series of events and activities around the globe.&nbsp; Chairman of the council, Councillor Dale Grounds, will host the ceremony outside the council offices in Kirkby in Ashfield. Commonwealth Day 2024

Ashfield residents will be able to view famous works of art in Sutton in Ashfield as part of a mobile museum tour across the UK. The district has been chosen as one of the places for the Art Explora Mobile Museum to visit, as part of a&nbsp;12-week tour with Tate and MuMo. The mobile museum is a unique trailer designed by French designer Matali Crasset, and is hosting the exhibition - Soup, Socks and Spiders! Art of the Everyday. The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, film, digital art, and sculpture by artists including Andy Warhol, Cornelia Parker, Damien Hirst, David Hockney, Dorothea Tanning, Fernand Léger, Nam June Paik, Phyllida Barlow, Roy Lichtenstein, Vanessa Bell, and Wolfgang Tillmans. During the week schools and community groups will be receiving guided tours of the exhibitions and workshops hosted by the Mobile Museum team. As part of this unique tour, Ashfield District Council is hosting a free event in Sutton in Ashfield to view the exhibition and visitors can take part in creative workshops, participate in arts and crafts, have their faces painted, and listen to music by Inspire’s Red Hot Band.&nbsp; The free event will be held from 10am to 2pm. There is no need to book.&nbsp;

Art Explora Mobile Museum

May 2024 marks 30 years since Brierley Forest Park opened! To celebrate this milestone, we are hosting a small event with The Brierley Café. Join us on Saturday 11 May from 11.30am to 1.30pm for free face painting, arts and crafts, and a nature trail. There might even be some special tasty treats available to buy from the café!

30 Years of Brierley Forest Park

The Ashfield Plant and Garden Fair returns to Sutton in Ashfield town centre on 19 May from 9am to 1pm. Due to renovation work set for Portland Square, the market will be held on Sutton North car park (near Costa Coffee) in Sutton town centre. Get on down if you are looking for indoor and outdoor garden items such as:

Ashfield Plant and Garden Fair 

We are excited to share with you The Big Sing and Dance, a partnership between Captivate, Inspire Music, and Ashfield District Council aiming to enhance the current project, The Big Sing, by incorporating dance and more music. THE BIG SING AND DANCE will take place on Monday 15 July 2024, at Kirkby Plaza, Market Place, NG17 7AL. Groups should arrive from 12.30pm, and guests should arrive from 2pm. As part of the offer, you will receive:

Ashfield District Council is bringing back the Ashfield Show for 2024, for the first time in over a decade. Following the success of the inaugural Ashfield Day in 2022, which had 12,000 people flock to Sutton Lawn to enjoy a day of free family fun, the council has decided to extend the event and bring back the Ashfield Show. Sutton Lawn will play host to the three-day event, which will run on Friday 9 August, Saturday 10 August, and Sunday 11 August. Full details of the event will be released in the coming months, but visitors can expect live music, community performances, food, drink, the market village, activities, and so much more.

Ashfield Show

The annual Ashfield Food and Drink festival returns to Hucknall on Sunday 18 August from 10am to 4pm. &nbsp; The event brings together independent traders of food and drinks onto the high street of Hucknall.
You will find artisan breads, cheeses, pizza, baked goods, craft beer, Asian, Indian, Jamaican, and Nigerian street food, and so much more.&nbsp;

Spooky Crafts 

Ashfield’s skyline is set to come to life as the fireworks extravaganza is back by public demand.&nbsp; Ashfield District Council will bring back the fireworks night for the first time in over a decade with Sparks in the Park on Saturday 2 November. Sutton Lawn will once again play host to the FREE night of entertainment, which will include a laser show and fairground rides, as well as the all-important fireworks. There will also be a stage featuring live entertainment with performances from Danielle, as seen at Ashfield Show, and a DJ as well as entertainment for the children. The fairground rides will be open from 12pm with the rest of the event starting from 4pm, including food and drink stands and on-stage entertainment. The laser show will be from 6.30pm, followed by the main event of the night, a musical firework show, from 8.30pm. Councillor Jason Zadrozny, leader of the council, said: “We are delighted to be bring back our fireworks spectacular with ‘Sparks in the Park’ and look forward to welcoming everyone to Sutton Lawn for our fireworks extravaganza. “It will truly be a night to remember. I know numerous residents have asked for this to return over the years and once again your council has listened. Please come along on Saturday 2 November to enjoy yet another fabulous free event organised by Ashfield District Council, in partnership with Out of the Box Events.” Out of the Box Events, who worked with the council on the return of the Ashfield Show and a number of summer events, is running the firework extravaganza.

Sparks in the Park

This event at Mour Hotel, in Sherwood Business Park, will focus on creativity and how this is now being seen as the new currency, which is driving economic growth and how local businesses can harness this. These events are designed to help local, regional, and national organisations make new connections, while also providing information in support of topical issues that are impacting local companies. In attendance we usually see council leaders, business directors, and CEOs, together with representatives from many of our partners, such as the Department for Business and Trade, East Midlands Chamber, West Notts College, local universities, trade associations, and of course many local businesses. <a rel="noopener" href="https://www.ashfield.gov.uk/business-licensing/business-support/business-news/business-events/" target="_blank">Anyone interested in this or future business support events, register at the Ashfield District Council website</a> Once you have been added onto our events register, the Business Support team will review this list prior to any events and will send out an invitation to book a place. Invitations will be sent out based around the theme that is being delivered and to enable as many individual businesses as possible to attend - please limit your company booking to one person. We are happy to keep a reserve list of additional places you require, should they become available. This would be on a first come, first served basis.

The annual Christmas lights switch on is returning to Sutton in Ashfield and is the perfect time to start the festive celebrations. The event will be held in the Market Place car park from 4pm to 7.30pm on Thursday 21 November. It will be an evening of festive fun with Christmas market stalls, hot food and drink, seasonal entertainment and, of course, the all-important light switch on. The big man himself will also be making an appearance, as Santa will meet guests as he arrives on his sleigh.&nbsp;

Selston Films in the Park is returning on Saturday 21 June with 2 huge releases being shown on the big screen in scenic surroundings.
Selston Country Park will be welcoming everyone’s favourite bear for the 2pm showing with Paddington in Peru. The untold story of the Witches of Oz will be shared at 6pm as Wicked will get film-lovers singing into the evening.
Throughout the day there will be a bar, inflatables, face painting, and acoustic acts playing in the café.
This is a free event; no tickets or booking required - just bring your chairs, blankets, and snacks.
