Hidden Valleys

Various locations across Ashfield

A lush, undulating expanse of countryside north of Hucknall, the Hidden Valleys area has much to offer with miles of waymarked rural walks, cycle paths, and bridleways. There are many fascinating sites of natural, industrial, and cultural heritage, nestled among wooded areas and open countryside. The villages of Jacksdale, Underwood, Bagthorpe, Lower Bagthorpe, Selston, Annesley, Ravenshead, Newstead, Linby, and Papplewick are set within the Hidden Valleys landscape.

Along the walks in these areas visitors will come across brilliant historical attractions including Newstead Abbey, Felley Priory, Annesley Old Church, and several rural parish churches, each with their own fascinating tales to tell.

Selston countryside with trees and grasslandAuthor D.H. Lawrence based many of his novels around the places and families of the area and referred to it as ‘the country of my heart’. Waymarked walks range from 2.5 miles to 10 miles and there are also several cosy, country pubs along the trails.
